Yay for a 4-day weekend! Friday we wanted to do dinner and a movie but none of the movies out interested us so it was just a great dinner at Macaroni Grill! On Saturday we met with our real estate agent for the first time and we saw two properties! It would have been more places but we're running into a problem. We are looking mostly at condos. We'd like to find something to live in for a few years that can later become an income property. And since we initially thought we'd be able to do FHA financing, we made sure to have enough in the bank to cover the 3% down plus extra for closing costs. The problem we're running into is that many of the condos that are in our desired areas are either short sales or foreclosures. If you lived in a condo, and you fell on hard times, what is the first bill you might stop paying? Those pesky condo fees perhaps? In many cases that is exactly what has happened and when condo associations fall below a certain line in terms of payments being made they lose their FHA qualification. Most of the places we were looking at are not currently FHA qualified as a result of non payment of condo fees. And honestly I don't think I want to live in a place where condo fees aren't being paid. Especially because after that flood in Nashville - I was SO grateful that our Association had the funds in place to quickly get the exterior of the damaged units fixed. And we found the most wonderful perfect place - it was snatched up a couple of days after it appeared on the mris site. It sucked but we're hopeful that we'll find something in the next few months. Our lease is up in February so we are hoping to find something permanent by then. If not, we're also looking for another apartment closer to the District. Either way we'll be packing up in the new year!!
Saturday night we went to the birthday party for a friend of ours whose birthday is Oct 31st. Also known as Halloween. Each year she and her husband throw a fabulous costume party. Costumes are mandatory! And in addition to delicious food, drinks, and of course candy. There is always a pinata filled with liquor minis and candy. Last year it was Justin Beiber, this year it was very appropriate for our group! Many in attendance missed out on two weeks of work and unlike those actually employed by the fed. govt, they won't be receiving back pay. So we were more than happy to beat this thing to the ground!!
Last year hubs and I did individual costumes. I was Sister Mary Clarence (nun from Sister Act) and he was a Dojo Master. The year before we were both pirates. This year we are going as Spartans Cheerleaders from SNL. This is good and bad. Good because it's an easy and fairly cheap costume (yay amazon!!). Bad because we didn't make the time to learn the skit! And even worse - we didn't get a single picture taken together! The party was great but very few pics were taken... To much fun to be all up in our phones!! But one of the partygoers did snap this pic!
And before you ask - my red solo cup had 7-up! (haha that rhymed!!) Thanks to the myriad of meds I'm taking so I can breathe as my body adjusts to the changing of the seasons, I was our DD!! I did however have a couple of worms that had been marinating in some kind of liquor - didn't realize that until they were squirming around in my mouth!! Delicious!
And of course Sunday was mostly dedicated to football. That and trying to get my body under control. Thankfully I don't go back to work until Tuesday - Hopefully I'll be feeling better by then.
Almost time for the SNF game - which may or may not actually mean bedtime for me... I took a 3 hour nap earlier but I feel so sluggish, I think I may just let the game lull me to sleep.
