So prior to leaving for the Falls, I downloaded book two. The writing isn't much better than the the first book but the story kept me in there! I like the characters and want to see what happens. And while good writing is important, people don't finish reading if they don't care about the characters! I don't want to do a full review until after I read book three. But I will say this - she has done a good job creating characters that you want to see happy and together. Now I haven't read the twilight series but I've heard that you could change a few things and the stories are basically the same, one is vampires and the other is bdsm and the names of the characters. Makes me wonder if the twilight books are better written? Back to Fifty - the way Christian's past influences his present and possibly his future is quite interesting. And the final little twist she throws out there at the end is something else. I'm very interested in reading book three! I will probably download it this week because I don't really want to wait a month or longer for it to be available at the library. Since finishing book two I've also begun thinking about who I'd like to see in the lead roles in the movies. In the role of Christian Grey I've come up with a few possibilities.
Channing Tatum - he's gorgeous, the type of man who walks in the room and all eyes are on him. Women begin to drool and wish he would choose them. Physically I can see him in the role, but I don't think his acting skills are good enough.
And then there's Ryan Gossling - Better actor, he has already proven he can play a range of emotions and he's fairly good looking.
But my favorite - Jesse Spencer. For those who watch House you would know him as Dr Chase! He's handsome and I can see him being sexy and sweet as well as tortured by his past.
Now as for the female lead - Anastasia. My top pick is for Alexis Bledel. Mostly know as Rory from the Gilmore Girls. She was recently in Mad Men and I think she'd be a perfect Ana. Beautiful but not so beautiful that you can't imagine her ever being insecure about her beauty. She's talented and if she's willing to do the sex scenes (I'm sure it'll be tasteful unless they plan on making it mommy porn for real) I think she'd be an amazing Ana.
Now there is one thing I do have to address about this trilogy. Ladies, it is not likely that in the real world your love will be enough to make a person do a 360 turn around. Please know that if your man is controlling and stalkerish when you begin dating, this is something that will not change if you commit to a more serious relationship. In fact, it will probably increase. And unless you are into BDSM, violence is never acceptable and there are places and people who will help you get out of a dangerous situation if you find yourself in one.
That said, goodnight - its NBA time over here.
