I am struggling to log my food. It isn't that the logging is difficult as that's possibly the easiest thing ever thanks to the apps. But I just forget about it. I need to make it a habit to finish my log each night before I go to bed. I have tried a few new workouts this week and I'd like to share them with you! I've previously had a gym membership and in high school I was ran track. So I don't feel the need for a trainer except to have someone push me to go harder when I think I've reached my limit. Something I learned last night, I can do it myself. I can push myself, and when I feel like giving up, I just tell myself to do a few more. That I can do anything for one minute. And I hear Jillian Michaels' voice in my head saying "You're strong, you can do this". And when that doesn't work and I need someone in front of me - I have my husband. He's a doll. And I want us to be healthy together!
So I get bored quite easily when it comes to workouts. I used to love Zumba. Part of the reason is that every few weeks the instructor would change the dance. We'd do the same one for two maybe three weeks and then once the regular members had pretty much mastered that one, we'd get a fresh one. Now I'm far from a good dancer but I did enjoy that. And the changes challenged us we worked hard each session to keep up with our instructor and sometimes the we younger folks were working hard to keep up with the older trained dancers in the class who were there as they put it "to keep things fresh and new". There is nothing quite like realizing that the little lady with the white hair is much lighter on her feet than I was! And watching the old men whose wives had dragged them there watch the young instructor. Such a fun class. And since then I've learned the importance of keeping my workouts fresh. Not only to keep me from boredom but also to keep my body from getting too used to a particular workout. Some call it muscle confusion. I'm hoping it'll work. I'm going to stick to a routine. Never the same thing each day but the same thing each week. The only thing I need to change up immediately is that I need to get some heavier weights! My 5 lb dumbbells are great but I was able to do WAY too many reps this week. 5 lbs has gotten too easy. So its time to up the weight to 10. For the month of February I am going to do this challenge - February Push Up Challenge. I will be doing this in addition to my workout. Push ups are one of the best body weight exercises. And I am easily getting my 40 push ups done! And by the end of the month 100 will be a breeze!
Here's my Get Fit Board on Pinterest. When I need something fresh or I just want to add a little ommph to my workout I just add one of these to my day. Sometimes I need a little inspiration - I have plenty here on my board. I even have a couple of swimming workouts that I can't wait to try when the pool opens. And there are some other fitness challenges that I will be trying once I'm done with the push up challenge. These challenges are pretty easy and I can usually talk my sister or a friend into doing it with me!
This is WAY to long! Next week it'll be all about healthier eating. Trying some new recipes to maximize my results.
