Its clearly election season! And as such we are being bombarded with ads and speeches mostly attempting to destroy the credibility of their opponents. I'm so glad not to live in a battleground state where they are truly being inundated with ads. As the RNC is winding down we're at the point where Mitt Romney is going to formally accept his party's nomination for Presidency. And in Nov it'll be time to go to the polls and vote. Which brings me to the point of this post. Where do you stand on the issues? How do you decided which issues are most important to you? For college students looking toward the future, will there be jobs for them? Will they have to move back (or stay) home with the parents in order to have a place to live for a few years? For parents, the education system in our country is broken in many places. We have districts across the country that are suffering from a lack of funds, and seriously underpaid teachers. Teachers who are working hard everyday to make do with less. There are roads and bridges that need serious TLC and in some cases major overhauls - but I don't hear anyone talking about that stuff until a bridge collapses. We have businesses large and small unable to hire people so again we have people working very hard with less. We have people who years ago bought houses they really couldn't afford and between that and the high unemployment rate, millions of homes across the country in foreclosure. People reached a point where the choice between putting food on the table trumped paying the mortgage (as it should) and in the end, lost their homes. Your credit takes such a hit when your home is foreclosed on that even getting a tiny cheap apartment can be difficult leading to homelessness. And not everyone has family that is able or willing to take them in. And how about the healthcare issues. Who's going to pay for healthcare? What's going to be covered? And how do we make it affordable so that people who are still working to get on their feet aren't afraid to go to the dr or to take their kids when they're sick? And what about women's health? As a human I feel that preventative screenings are SO important for all of us. Now how about our economy? Our national debt and deficit. Who is the right person to lead us out of this incredible mess? And I use the word lead loosely... Here's why - we also need to remember that the President is not the primary decision maker in this country. If he were, this would be a dictatorship and not a democratic republic. We have to make the decision every time we vote for our senators and congress people. We need to vote for the people we believe have our best interest at heart and who will fight for what we believe in. So that said, get informed find out what each candidate stands for and what they say they will do if they get into office (yes politicians are infamous for lying but we can only go with what they tell us) and then vote. And take someone with you to the polls! If you know someone who isn't yet registered to vote see if there is anything you can do to help them.
To use a phrase made popular by P. Diddy
ROCK THE VOTE!
