I had some friends from college came to town for the Inauguration. So on Saturday we took the train into the city to meet them for lunch at Founding Farmers It was DELICIOUS! For appetizers we had deviled eggs ( I don't eat them and those that did weren't impressed - they sent them back and had brown sugar maple bacon brought out instead) The bacon was so good I'm hoping to try it next time bacon goes on sale! 4 of us had the Chicken and Waffles meal. It came with Mac n Cheese and 1 other side so I choose Mashed Potatoes and hubs had the Sweet Potatoes. So good! It came with half a chicken (dark and white meat) and half a waffle. My only real complaint would be there was too much butter and the syrup wasn't quite as sweet as I had expected. But it was so good that I would easily go back again anytime! There was quite the wait but it was nice outside and on a busy weekend I would have wondered if the food was any good if there wasn't a wait! We then walked over to the MLK Memorial as they hadn't seen it yet and we took a few pictures - unfortunately my battery had died and we forgot to bring out cameras. But once my friend sends us the pics I'll put them up. We ran into some other people from TSU and it was great! We then walked a mile or so to an Alumni gathering. For some odd reason they were charging $20 at the door - $15 in advance. They had some sliders and a few sides but that was it. No music, no drinks, nothing... A bit of a waste but our feet and legs were in serious need of rest so we sat for about 20 minutes and then headed over to Bertucci's Italian Restaurant for dinner. It was around 10pm when we left and headed back to the metro. Said our goodbyes on the train and came home. It was a wonderful day and husband was sweet enough to rub my legs! I was thrilled that he got to meet some of my friends. And he was thrilled that I had friends for him to meet. Apparently he dated someone before me who didn't have friends outside of the ones she met through him. It's good to keep up the friendships you had before marriage, healthy even! And while I know it's difficult to see people as life gets in the way, thanks to email and social networking, you can at least keep in touch and see each other when you can.
*Today*
I live roughly an hour away from D.C. And since we didn't have tickets, and my husband is working today so I watched it from the warmth and comfort of my home! 4 years ago many people said it was a historic day and one that would probably not happen again for a while. Who would of thought that 4 years later, we'd be watching the 1st African-American ( and he truly is both ) President being sworn in again. It truly gives me hope that we'll have a woman in office sooner than later! I truly can hardly wait to see the day! I loved Kelly Clarkson and Beyonce! I have been a Clarkson fan for years and I'm thrilled that she sang this afternoon! Beyonce - I can't say I'm a huge fan but I do respect the way she chooses to present herself to the public and she is talented. She sang our National Anthem beautifully and didn't add too many runs which was appreciated. Sometimes singers forget that it's a beautiful song without all the embellishments!
I enjoyed the Presidents speech. I'm glad that unlike 4 years ago this wasn't a rallying speech. He's won the election and has a lot of work to do and he's more aware of that now than he was 4 years ago. He is no longer the junior senator. I have more expectations this time around. Last time I was excited that a man who looked more like me won but I was rooting for Senator McCain right up until he chose his VP. This time around I was confident that Mr. Romney was not a man who wanted to be President of ALL people. Its unfortunate that it was his own words that lost him the election. I couldn't in good conscience vote for him. So I'm looking forward with great anticipation at the next four years. I am looking forward to seeing what progress is made. It's so great to be at an age where I can appreciate that I can see history being made and truly grasp what's happening. So much has happened in my 31 years of life. And I so look forward to what's to come.
*this has gotten much longer than I wanted - Happy Monday folks!*
