Fresh off the ship! Ready to Explore the island!
Every cruise offers excursions ranging from moderately expensive to ridiculously expensive. And in some cases it's actually cheaper to arrange something on your own. Nassau is one of those cases. It pays to do research before you commit to an excursion. In Nassau there are registered taxi drivers who will give you a tour of the island, including going over to Atlantis for $23pp. The tour lasted 2.5 hours in an air conditioned van. We stopped at a couple of beaches.
The water was so amazingly clear and warm.
This clearly wasn't the hop in and swim part but just down the beach a little ways we saw people snorkeling and enjoying the sandy beaches. This was at Cabbage beach. There were some young kids there selling Cannapes - (i could totally be spelling this wrong) They were in a green shell, you crack the shell and suck the stuff off the seed and then toss the shell and the seed. We were advised not to eat the seed! It was kind of sweet/sour.
After this beach, our driver took us to Cable beach. Here's what's happening on Cable Beach
Cable Beach Resort - Seriously an amazing looking resort. Husband and I have already said we'd love to come back when the resorts are finished and stay for at least a week!
Here's a preview
After this we got a great tour of the island. And then we stopped at Atlantis. Atlantis is a beautiful resort/casino. We didn't pay to do the tour of it - I've heard its a great tour so we'll see. The rest of this post will be in captioned photos!
The US Embassy
40 years as an independent nation!
The Queens Staircase - 65 steps carved out of limestone by slaves between 1793-1794 in honor of Queen Victoria's reign. You can read more about it HERE.
Next to the staircase.
Heading away from the staircase - Gorgeous right? I loved this spot.
Fort Fincastle! Shaped like a ship.
The Sydney Poitier Bridge to Paradise Island.
The Towers of Atlantis! It almost doesn't look real.
Inside of Atlantis - headed out to the pool/beach area.
Heading into the Casino! (ignore my hand I don't know what I was doing... )
We didn't take pictures but Atlantis has a luxury shopping center attached. Crystal Court Shopping and then some!
Paradise Island Marina Village! More shopping - but slightly less high end. There was a great candy shop with a ton of candy that I haven't seen in years. Would have bought some but it was kinda expensive for candy...
Water pad at Pompey Square.
Stopped at Senor Frogs on the way back to the ship!
Huge lounge chairs!
Guy with the drum - insisted he be in the picture and then asked for a tip...
You must be that tall to drink! I made it :-)
Read the sign! LOL
Time to get back on the ship!
Scene from our balcony - We may take a Booze Cruise next trip... I just don't think we drink enough for all that though! But it looked the fun and the DJ was great!
Back on board it was time to dress up a little for dinner and then family pictures!
Ignore the sweater - I meant to put it down... It gets chilly on the ship! Especially in the dining room.
We had a GREAT DAY!
