Last Weekend Roundup!

So last weekend we went on a road trip! And I must say, the excitement of road tripping has temporarily been lost on me. On Friday after we worked out and had breakfast we got on the road around noon and headed to Charlotte, NC for our friends' baby shower. Rachel and I have been friends since about 2001/2? I honestly don't remember. But we met during an Impact Movement meeting on campus. And have been friends ever since. She's an amazing person and in just a few weeks she and her husband will welcome their little girl into the world. After getting engaged (just a few weeks apart :-) we each moved. They moved to NC and we moved to MD. I've only seen her once since then at a wedding. But we've stayed in touch and when I found out she was having a baby shower in NC I talked to her husband about Hubby and I coming - he loved the idea of surprising her so we made it happen. If you recall, earlier this summer Hubs and I went to Nashville for a week and we drove. After that trip, Hubby said NO MORE ROAD TRIPS. So I was concerned he might veto the idea. But he loves me and he adores Rachel. It helps that he and her husband are also friends so he said yes. He also checked airline prices up till the night before we left to see if we could get it cheaper than driving :-)
The drive there was maddening!! The drive should have taken just under 7 hours...Thanks to construction in both VA and NC it took 11 hours! I was beyond exhausted and regretting that we road tripped it. Then we walked into the house and when Rachel saw me the smile on her face and tears in her eyes were totally worth the drive. As was the two nights of staying up WAY past our bedtimes talking. They showed us the city, took us to Amelies French Bakery - check it out if you go to Charlotte it's amazing! And her friends threw her a wonderful baby shower. Oh and I settled on pajamas from the Jessica Simpson Maternity line for her gift, she loved it and thankfully it fit. Oh and she looks amazing, all belly and boobs! And this baby is such a gift to them. And it's really something to see someone who wasn't sure she'd be able to have a baby and is now preparing for the arrival. We see so often on these reality shows how easily some women get pregnant that we forget it isn't easy for everyone. I'm not sure if I could be any happier for them. It was a great weekend! And hopefully we'll manage to see them again before the kids' 1st birthday!!
Look at that belly! At this point she's 39.5 weeks!
