So before the vacation I stepped on the scale. Everyone always says you gain SO MUCH weight when on a cruise so I decided it would be a good idea to know for sure. I gained 4 pounds. However talking to others who went with us - many gained up to 10 and a couple gained more. One of the best things about cruising is that you have access to food 24 hrs a day. Be it an all night buffet or room service you should never go hungry on a cruise ship. In fact, I realized on Sunday as we landed at our home airport that I was hungry and I hadn't felt hungry all week. Not even a little bit. I also never felt stuffed. I was careful to enjoy my food without stuffing myself. Except for Thursday... We ordered Mac n Cheese to the room - it was on the kids menu so we expected a small portion and frankly, didn't expect it to taste good. We got quite the surprise not only was it a generous portion, it was also delicious!! And we enjoyed every bite. Enough about the food - lets get to the workout! I suggest downloading your favorite workouts to your Ipod or cell phone. This way when you're on the ship, you truly have NO EXCUSES for not making use of the workout facilities. This particular ship was equipped a gym that had few cardio machines, plenty of free weights, and weight machines. They also had an aerobics room that was used for classes such as Spinning, Boot Camp and informational wellness classes. And when there wasn't a class happening, it was open for use. They had mats, balls, pull up bars suspended from the ceiling, a pilates table (i think that's what it's called) and a mirrored wall with a barre. And as it is a cruise ship which can be a haven for germs, TONS of hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes to wipe everything down. I must say there is nothing quite like being on the treadmill with the ocean I'm front of you. Talk about scenery! In addition to the gym, there was a jogging track on the upper deck! And plenty of people made use of the workout facilities. Early morning was difficult to find a machine. So be patient its worth it. In addition to that you have plenty of opportunities to walk around both on board and in port, so make sure to take your sneakers and some workout clothes in addition to the swim wear and sandals! And there are excursions like stand up paddle boarding that are fun and will certainly work you out. We worked out and both still gained some weight but it made it that much easier to get back into our workouts when we returned home.
Happy thursday folks!
Happy thursday folks!
i am glad you were able to indulge but at the same time use the facilities they had to maintain your fitness goals. it may be an excuse people use to indulge in food and alcohol while cruising. it's all about balance in the long run.
ReplyDeleteMrs.P - balance is exactly it. We saw a few people who definitely over indulged in both food and spirits! And drunk on a boat is NOT a good look!
