Day 6: Your Last Random Act of Kindness
My last random act of kindness would have been a couple of months ago. I don't like giving people money. And I usually don't have cash on me anyways. So it was cold and rainy and a couple of guys were panhandling and I picked up a couple of gift cards for McDonald's and gave those them. It is always a struggle for me to give to people on the street. You hear these stories about these people posing as homeless people and making upwards of 60K a year tax free. And going home to their nice place in the suburbs. So I generally prefer to donate money or supplies to a reputable organization that helps the homeless. And every few months as we lose weight, we drop of bags of clothing to the Salvation Army.

Our town recently had a big ad campaign urging us to give our money to the food bank and the shelters instead of the panhandlers. I believe it's done a lot of good!
ReplyDeleteGiving to the beggars is always a hard thing to do. But thanks for the idea of giving them food certificates!
ReplyDeletei agree about not giving money to panhandlers either...i would rather give something like food, water, i do like the gift certificate idea!!
ReplyDeleteWith the gift certificates, I figure even if they aren't truly in need, it's nice to get a free meal or coffee every once in a while!
ReplyDeleteLaura - I wish more towns and cities would do that! Every year people remember the food banks and shelters at the holidays but they need it year round!
