St. Patrick's Day!

So until today I really had no idea why we celebrated this particular holiday. All I knew about it was that it was an "Irish drinking holiday". I figured it was more like Cinco de Mayo. Americans celebrate it with lots of Mexican food and margaritas but it's a minor holiday in Mexico. So I visited History.com and read up on St. Patrick's Day. Very interesting for me to learn that Saint Patrick was a Christian missionary, bishop and apostle to Ireland. And that most of what is known about him is because he wrote a book. And he is quite the legend in Ireland. It was also noted that the first St. Patrick's Day Parade was here in the U.S. when the Irish soldiers serving in the English army marched through NYC in 1762. It did not become the global holiday it is now until 1995 when the Irish government decided to  use the popularity of the holiday to their advantage. And it clearly worked! As evidenced by the green parades, lakes, beers and foods that appear each year on or around March 17th! I imagine that people who have the desire and the means to do so fly travel to Ireland to see the beautiful country and partake in the festivities. I know I would. And I know I have some Irish ancestry so I'd love the opportunity to trace those parts of my roots! My uncle went a few years back and said it was a wonderful experience. So one day I'd like to go there. In fact, I think I'll add that to my life list.

Last night our friends Deb and Derek had a St. Patty's day/clear out the booze cause baby is on the way party. They are so cute - they hold the best parties and he used to work oat a liquor store so they had quite the assortment of wines and spirits! Even had games to play in which the winners won a bottle of booze! We won tequila but forgot to bring it home. Oh well, we'll be back at Easter so if it's still there we'll grab it then if not oh well! I can hardly wait till we have more space to entertain! I am hopeful that we'll be able to host a few dinners sooner than later. But as it stands, our "open concept" is open and tiny. We do have a small couch and love seat, and a card table. I am hopeful that in the near future we'll acquire enough space and furniture to host a holiday meal for our loved ones! Happy St. Patrick's Day folks!
